5 Essential Daytime Wedding Tips

The vast majority of weddings are held on Saturday evenings; however; there are no rules saying you can't get married other days of the week or at alternative times of the day. In fact, hosting on a non-traditional day or during the daytime may even open up flexibility to extend the celebration with more options available to you and your guest. We’ve gathered some important need-to-know tips for anyone considering a daytime wedding. Enjoy!

1. Guest are less likely to dance on the dance floor during a daytime wedding, so it's good to have backup plans! Consider having alternative entertainment like various “live” performances or activities. We love a live painter at events, one option to consider is having unique painters throughout your event space painting your guests. This makes a great keepsake for you as well!

2. Determining your menu selections and service style are a huge part of planning your wedding regardless of the time of your reception. Choosing an alternative time of day opens up even more freedom to be creative in this area. Hors D’oeuvre menus, small

plate performance stations, dessert only, brunch stations....the choice is completely up to you; however; we do recommend letting your guest in on this info. If you are selecting a lighter menu during a traditional meal time this is something you should enclose in your invitations or wedding website.

3. If you are hosting a daytime, outdoor, summer time reception it is important to think ahead. Prepare for warm weather and lots of natural light! Think about providing stations to keep guest hydrated, areas with shade and places for cooling down. You want your guests to enjoy themselves not swelter in the sun. As always, ask your pro team for their guidance. The right team should be ahead of this and guide you to the must haves regardless of your plans.

Bonus tip: Look up what time the sun rises and sets, that way you can plan accordingly on essential elements like your ceremony start time and where the sun might be shining during photos.

4. Daytime attire is much different from evening attire, but that doesn’t mean your wedding still can’t be formal. Invitations are a great way to make guest aware of the tone and style of your wedding. Just a quick wardrobe guide for daytime weddings is always welcomed for those guests who may be second guessing what to wear or purchase for your big day.

5. When considering decor for a daytime wedding, the sky is the limit. You have the freedom of being as “extra” as you’d like (you are already outside the bounds of wedding tradition anyway!) or as understated as you’ve dreamed of. There simply are no set standards here. Pull together your must have elements and allow your design team to create unique suggestions to flow with the overall color story you’d like to share. Lighting will be key for you and your pro team should make recommendations on pulling off your design with flawless lighting no matter the time of day.
